Why Aikido for Home Schoolers?

Aikido is an ideal martial art for young people because of its non-violent, non-competitive, and non-confrontational philosophy. Its principles are based on non-resistance and harmonious movement. Aikido is a purely defensive art – children are not taught that punching and kicking are acceptable ways of dealing with conflict. Rather they learn that aggression only leads to self-defeat. Instead of doing Aikido to or against an opponent, Aikido is practiced with a partner. Since there are no tournaments in Aikido your child receives all positive benefits of martial arts training without the sometimes-unfortunate 'side effects' of competition. Aikido teaches a 'win / win' approach to conflict resolution. In Aikido no child should ever feel like a 'loser'.

We recognize the importance of socializing home schoolers with their peers in a proper, non-threatening, physical educational environment, at affordable rates. This is why we have designed a successful fitness activity program for developing healthy confident kids. This is a chance for them to have on-going, structured, physical activity, two times a week that is taught by a full-time trained certified Aikidoka.

Classes include warm-ups, stretching, self-defense, centering techniques, and fun skill-developing games. Parents are greatly encouraged to observe.
